Cabin Trip

After we spent Christmas in Selah, we made our way to the Hauge cabin up at White Pass. We spent several days playing in the snow, much to Magnus and Sherman's delight.

Christmas in Selah

For our third Christmas celebration of the season, we headed to Selah, Washington, and the home of Chris and Sharon (a.k.a. PumPum and Mamu). We were joined by Sharon's parents, LaRue an Ginny, Uncle Lincoln and Kate, Aunt Sally, Aunt Jessica, Uncle Josh, and cousins Jackson and June, in addition to four dogs, Riley, Zinger, Toby and of course, Sherman. Below are some pictures highlighting some of the events:

Magnus and Jackson had a ball on their ponies.

Lots of Wii was played with Uncle Lincoln.

On Christmas Eve, we went to church for a service that primarily had guests singing Christmas carols. Magnus lasted all of two minutes before getting antsy, so Dee took him out into the lobby. After a while had passed, I went to see how they were doing, but they were no where to be found. It was then that I heard a familiar thumping coming from upstairs. I followed the sound up the stairs and found Magnus having a blast running the hallways of the church, with Dee in tow. We spent the rest of the service running the hallways together, before returning to sing one final Christmas song while Magnus was mesmerised, distracted, and therefore, still, by the candles being lit up around him.

The only way we could get Magnus to take a picture with us was if we brought the horse into the picture too (otherwise, we could not get him off of the horse!)

The annual Glogg ceremony.

Magnus loved playing with his new walking duck that Santa brought.

Magnus and his cousins, Jackson and June, enjoyed the bin of wrapping paper as much as the presents they held!

We went on lots of walks.

Sir Trenton Storm made his debut as a carriage pony much to our delight.Somehow Jessica ended up pulling the carriage after Sir Trenton Storm was tuckered out.

Piano playing was a big hit, especially as a decoy to avoid bedtime, and FIRST thing in the morning, when only a toddler felt it was fitting to be awake.

Magnus had his first pony ride on Sir Trenton Storm.

Christmas Traditions Begun

Since we were heading to Selah for several days over Christmas, and knowing how ridiculously over packed our car is whenever we go out of town with a toddler and a dog, we decided to have a Hauge family Christmas, partake in some Seattle holiday traditions, and open our presents beforehand. We started our Christmas celebration with pancakes shaped like reindeer, snowflakes and gingerbread men. I've had these molds for years and it was the first time I used them--there is something so novel and fun about making pancakes in special shapes for your child! After devouring our breakfast, we raced to get Magnus ready to head downtown before his much needed afternoon nap. First stop was the Sheraton Hotel, where every year architects create massive gingerbread houses. After that, we were on to the Fairmount Olympic Hotel and the Teddy Bear Suite. We had no idea what this entailed, but we soon discovered that one of the suits in the hotel had, as the name implies, been decorated for the holiday with a teddy bear theme. There were teddy bears of all shapes and sizes, which Magnus thoroughly enjoyed hugging and jumping on. Finally, we headed to the Seattle Center where they had carollers, a miniature Christmas village and train track that kids could operate, giant snow globe, ice skating, and a carousel. Magnus was somewhat tentative on his first carousel ride, much to my surprise (it did seem to be going rather fast for a kids ride though), but he warmed up to all the stimulation, music and moving horses by the end. After hitting up these sights, we headed home. During Magnus's nap, Dee couldn't wait to open presents, so we had our own gift exchange. When Magnus awoke a few hours later, he was showered with gifts of his own. He didn't demonstrate an exuberance for tearing into each package as I had imagine, and Dee and I found ourselves unwrapping most of what we had painstakingly wrapped the night before. Nevertheless, he was very curious and enthusiastic about what was inside each parcel. The biggest hit of the night was opening the new easel that Dee had made for him over the last few weeks. Magnus immediately sat down to "do some painting" and mimicked using his brushes to paint. It was a wonderful day and so fun to begin some of our own little family traditions to partake in in the years to come!

Christmas in Seattle

Over the weekend we celebrated Christmas with Dee's mom, Sue, (a.k.a. Ami,) Ray, great-grandma, Cal, and the Webb family. We spent the entire day at Sue's house, starting with Christmas brunch and ending with Christmas dinner. Magnus and his cousin, Jackson, romped around together and later in the day entertained themselves with their new toys and a candycane sugar high.

Ho Ho NOOOOO!

Dee and I have now lived up to having traumatized our child with a visit to 'ol Saint Nick. Secretly though, if he wasn't going to soak up the moment, this picture is priceless. It's amazing to see how much he's grown since this time last year.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

We weren't too sure about a Christmas tree and a very curious and active toddler, but we managed to decorate our home for the holidays, tree and all, with very little destruction. Magnus was in awe over the new sights, particularly, the singing/dancing Santa Claus.

Garbage Trucks

Magnus is quite obsessed with the garbage truck these days, and races to the window to watch the men load our trash. Lately, Sherman has started to follow suit, and the two of them together bring big smiles and waves from our garbage collectors each week.

First Snowshoe

Dee and I took the opportunity of Seattle being hit by a weather inversion to head to the mountains for our first snowshoe of the season. While temperatures hovered around 25 degrees at home, we enjoyed sunny skies and considerably warmer temperatures at the top of Snoqualmie Pass and snowshoed around the lake at Gold Creek. Magnus loved his new snowboots and kept cozy in his snowsuit, and Sherman frolicked like a little puppy once again.

Thanksgiving

As the Thanksgiving holiday draws near, I am often torn between embracing a wonderfully prepared meal with family and feeling that the meal itself has taken precedence over what I believe the focus of the holiday should be--that which is an occasion to reflect, recognize, and verbalize the innumerable things in which we should be thankful. While this year was no exception, Dee and I did enjoy a really lovely evening at his mom, Sue (a.k.a. Ami's) house, along with Ray, Grandma, Cal, Jessica, Josh, Jackson, June, and their friends, Joel, Cassidy, and their two boys, Keaton and Nolan. Yes, that is correct, there were 10 adults and five children (all under the age of three mind you)! Sue prepared a beautiful dinner that was nothing short of a feast, and even with 15 people, we found ourselves loading up leftovers after the meal to last for a week! It was delightfully chaotic with all the kids, and a delicious meal indeed. If you're wondering what I am thankful for this year, here is the abridged list:
1. Dee--for so many reasons beyong being the most loving husband, friend, and father
2. Magnus--for teaching me there truly is such a thing as love at first sight
3. For the healthy baby boy that will join our family in March
4. For Sherman, who still shines in our eyes and loves us even when we don't take him for a walk everyday
5. For family and friends near and far, who love us unconditionally

Halloween

On Halloween, Magnus, his grandma YaYa and I went to the University Village for some trick or treating. All of the shops opened their doors for a more or less toddler trick or treating event in the late afternoon. It was a riot to see hundreds of toddlers dressed up, going shop to shop, filling up their bags with candy, stickers, small toys and trinkets. Initially, Magnus was a little skeptical, not wanting to hand a stranger his new skeleton bag, but he soon understood that the person was not going to take it away, but put something inside it instead! Towards the end of our trick or treating, Magnus was gently holding out his bag in anticipation of what was to come!

Magnus holds my hand as we go trick or treating.

Magnus checks out his loot and discovers candy corn.

Magnus' first taste of candy, which he quickly decided he liked.

He was a pretty cute kangaroo if I do say so myself!

After trick or treating at the University Village, we stopped by the fire station to see Dee who was working. Then we were on to great grandma's for a quick hello before calling it a night.

PEPS pre-Halloween bash

It's hard to believe a whole year has passed since Magnus' last pre-Halloween bash with some of his PEPS buddies! This year Magnus was dressed as a kangaroo!

We managed to get a quick photo before the kids realized they were sitting.

Makes you never want to eat pork again, huh?

Magnus takes a breather from all the fun.
