Since we were heading to Selah for several days over Christmas, and knowing how ridiculously over packed our car is whenever we go out of town with a toddler and a dog, we decided to have a Hauge family Christmas, partake in some Seattle holiday traditions, and open our presents beforehand. We started our Christmas celebration with pancakes shaped like reindeer, snowflakes and gingerbread men. I've had these molds for years and it was the first time I used them--there is something so novel and fun about making pancakes in special shapes for your child! After devouring our breakfast, we raced to get

Magnus ready to head downtown before his much needed afternoon nap. First stop was the Sheraton Hotel, where every year architects create massive gingerbread houses. After that, we were on to the

Fairmount Olympic Hotel and the Teddy Bear Suite. We had no idea what this entailed, but we soon discovered that one of the suits in the hotel had, as the name implies, been decorated for the holiday with a teddy bear theme. There were teddy bears of all shapes and sizes, which Magnus thoroughly enjoyed hugging and jumping on. Finally, we headed to the Seattle Center where they had carollers, a miniature Christmas village and train track that kids could operate, giant snow globe, ice skating, and a carousel. Magnus was somewhat tentative on his first carousel ride, much to my surprise (it did seem to be going rather fast for a kids ride though), but he warmed up to all the stimulation, music and moving horses by the end. After hitting up these sights, we headed home. During Magnus's nap, Dee couldn't wait to open presents, so we had our own gift exchange. When Magnus awoke a few hours later, he was showered with gifts of his own. He didn't demonstrate an exuberance for tearing into each package as I had imagine, and Dee and I found ourselves unwrapping most of what we had painstakingly wrapped the night before. Nevertheless, he was very curious and enthusiastic about what was inside each parcel. The biggest hit of the night was opening the new easel that Dee had made for him over the last few weeks. Magnus immediately sat down to "do some painting" and mimicked using his

brushes to paint. It was a wonderful day and so fun to begin some of our own little family traditions to partake in in the years to come!
