The day after we arrived, we received a call that Dee's sister, Jessica, was scheduled for a C-section the following morning at 7:30 a.m. Since it would have been too much for Magnus to have been piled in a car at 4 a.m. to drive back to Seattle and then head back to the cabin the same day, we opted to have Dee make the trek solo. He arrived just before Jessica went into surgery and was there right as her daughter was announced to the awaiting family.

Cabin Trip
Whenever we have had an opportunity to go to the Hauge cabin, we've always felt that just as we were getting into 'mountain mode' (i.e. completely relaxed) it is time to pack up and head back to the city. Dee and I have fantasized about spending some extended time at the cabin, and really exploring the area. So, this summer Dee made a few trades at the station and we were able to head to Furu Ly for 11 days...
On our first day at the cabin we went on a hike to Lost Lake. We choose this hike because it was relatively close to the cabin and yet we had never been. It was a beautiful forested hike, however, there were a TON of mosquitoes along the way, so we kept a brisk pace to keep the critters off of us. Magically, when we arrived at the lake there was a small shelter nearby with a can of Deet inside!

Chubby Bunny
No trip to Rimrock Lake would be complete without taking Sherman for a swim. I love how fierce his paw looks in the water! He is hilarious when we go to the lake because he seriously enjoys SWIMMING for the sake of swimming, not necessarily fetching or running in and out of the water, etc. He just goes back and forth like he's doing laps!
We headed down to Selah to spend a few days at the Hauge ranch where we were introduced to Rapunzel's latest offspring, Cameo Fancy, who was about a week old.
Magnus enjoyed a good jam session on the piano.
Back at the cabin, Magnus discovered one of his favorite activities, getting in the cooler!

We had planned to camp one night of our trip, had recently purchased a new tent for the occasion, and had all our car camping gear packed and ready to go. As Magnus was taking his afternoon nap, Dee and I started discussing our plans. We had gotten into such a wonderful 'rhythm' and "routine" in between Magnus' naps, which were amazing (he was napping twice a day for nearly two hours each!) The thought of spending a sleepless night out in the woods, trying to coax Magnus to sleep when it was light until 11 pm and then waking up at the crack of dawn (as Magnus would surely wake up with the light) became daunting thoughts to our relaxed states. The cabin was such a great base to do all of our hiking, boating, swimming, etc. and yet have a shower, good meal, glass of wine and a sound night sleep, so we weren't feeling the pull quite as much as we had when we were in Seattle. Ultimately, we decided to forgo the overnight and just continue enjoying what we were doing! We felt kind of silly since we had the car all ready to go and were simply waiting for Magnus to wake up, but as Dee put it, "in the end, we only missed out on a night sleeping on the ground:)" In lieu of camping outdoors, we set up our new tent in the cabin living room and it became our 'fort' all week (at least it got some use!)
Dee took us on a crazy road trip up the side of the mountain to get to our next hike, which ended up being one of the most incredible hikes I've ever been on. We had spectacular views of the Cascades Mountains as we hiked along a ridge to Burnt Mountain.

Mt. Rainier in the distance.
Five minutes into our hike we stumbled upon a huge heard of 30+ mountain goats! They were so close to us it was a pretty unbelievable sight!

Back at the cabin, Magnus has a drink on his favorite 'chair.'
