My due date wasn't until March 20th, but I had strong intuitions that this baby was coming early. My biggest fear was that my water would break in the middle of class--imagine, 27 second graders dealing with their teaching having "peed." Yikes. Luck was on my side as my water broke in the privacy of my own home, although it took a while for Dee and I to clue in what was going on. Since my water didn't break with Magnus, I was envisioning a gush of water to hit the floor. In reality, I was getting ready for bed and was startled walking into the bedroom and feeling a 'trickle' down my leg! Dee started laughing at my 'incontinence' as I grabbed another pair of pajamas. Two pairs of pajamas later as the same scenario ensued, I found myself questioning, "I wonder if this is my water breaking?" After a quick phone call to the on call doctor, Dee's mom was on her way over and we were packing a bag for the hospital. When the contractions kicked in a half hour later I became more convinced that this was the real thing. Once at the hospital, the nurse quickly confirmed our delayed suspicions, exclaiming, "you're gonna have a baby tonight!" A mere three hours later, Alden Arik entered our lives and Dee was texting my job share partner letting her know I wouldn't be teaching the following day!
